Did Al-Assad run away from Damascus to Moscow?
A viral tweet on social media (X) claims to capture Bashar al-Assad and Asma Al-Assad, walking through Moscow’s streets after his supposed resignation two days ago.
➢ Claim: After resigning and leaving Syria, the past President Bashar al-Assad and his wife, Asma al-Assad, are seen in a picture walking in Paris streets.
A widely shared false context tweet and post on social media said that Syria’s president, Bashar al-Assad, has resigned and fled directly to Russia. The post or tweet states that Bashar al-Assad and his wife Asma were spotted walking in the streets of Moscow, where they were living in peace after fleeing to Syria. These posts and tweets had been spread widely the past few days on social media and it had been shared by a lot of people.
The rumor spread due to the events happening in Syria as it had been a few days since Bashar Al-Asad resigned and his family fled to Moscow and there is a lot of assumptions on where he is right now.
Accordingly, the claim is shown to be untrue. This photo wasn’t shot in Moscow and has nothing to do with what is currently happening. The truth is that the photo was taken in 2010 while Bashar and his wife were in Paris on a formal visit.

In order to verify the legitimacy and provenance of this widely shared photo, a number of tools and search engines were used. The image was examined using Yandex to make sure it wasn’t artificial intelligence (AI) or fake. Yandex also offered many viewpoints and locations for the same image to ensure its credibility. According to TinEye and Google reverse image, multiple versions of the photograph were found, and numerous sources connected it to the 2010 trip to Paris, France. lastly, through manual research on google using operators it was found that Miguel Medina, a photographer that works with Getty Images, was identified as the original source who took the picture and was posted on Getty images website.

Both of them can also be seen walking across the Parisian streets in the shot, which was taken when the Assads were on a formal visit, which helps in giving some background details to verify the location in the photo taken. Firstly, the NOUVELLES FRONTIERES which is a travel agency, and it is well-known for owning different locations in all of France. Secondly, the Tabac which is a French name for a tobacco shop, and it is so popular across all France streets. Lastly, the black bollards that line the roadway.
In conclusion, the exact location of Bashar Al-Asasd remains unknown, and there had been rumors that Bashar may have escaped to Russia. Recycled photos like this one are frequently used to support false narratives, and the uncertainty surrounding his location has led to a rise in disinformation.

The right thing is that the video was filmed in London, England.

Ross Lynch himself posted the video on his official TikTok account, explicitly stating that it was filmed in London. The video’s caption read, “Shout out to my impromptu dance with my partner last night in London with the date of 26 of September’’.

There has been no public revelation or official confirmation of the woman’s identity, even though many internet users were guessing about it.

The woman in the video is perhaps a fan who was asked to go on stage with Ross Lynch at the performance. Celebrities frequently use this strategy to interact with their fans.

Several news outlets, including: “صدى البلد”, reported about this piece of news, without knowing that the image followed by the article is a false context, as well as the lack of verification in the pre-publishing stage of their news articles.

Due to the ongoing incidents happening between Israel and Syria, the news was widely spread among people on social media platforms, including: Facebook, X, Instagram, and YouTube, marking a dramatic situation in the current Israel-Syria escalating conflict.

While there is actually evidence that Israel conducted airstrikes in Syria on the 9^th of December, 2024, leaving significant damage on Syrian ships, port facilities, and military assets, the complete truth behind the whole picture of the destructions remains unclear.

Till now, no official reports, either from The Israeli Ministry of Defense and the IDF or from reliable authoritative news sources, have reported or mentioned a complete destruction of the Syrian navy.

Therefore, there is no visual documentation or imagery supporting this narrative after the recent Israeli strike.

However, a false image was spread along this news story, claiming that this featured military navy of Israel launches a strike towards Syria due to the current incidents.

The real image was published on March 28, 2023 for a Russian navy boat while launching an anti-ship missile test in the Peter the Great Gulf in the Sea of Japan.

The image was falsely taken to a different news piece with different sides involved in the story, while ignoring the fact that the ship showed in the image is hanging the flag of the Russian army.

Furthermore, a Google image search shows that the image has been circulating online since 2019 and is constantly repeated at different times.

Copies and modified versions were widely spread on Facebook , X and news website, from various accounts.

Many sources defended that it was Sadam Hussein, claiming that he was found in Saydnaya prison. Adding, that Sadam Hussein is still alive. Sadam Hussein was After checking, it was verified that it is not Sadam Hussein in the picture. Verification tools provided clear evidence of the main image and that it was AI fabricated.

The truth behind the real image:

The main image goes back to 5 December 2017, to report to the arrest of former Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili in the Ukrinian capital Kiev in 2017. AI tools were used to fabricate the image of Sadam Hussein to manipulate the public and make propaganda. The image of Saakashvili was replaced with an image of Sadam Husssein and the security agents clothing was altered to display the Iraqi flag rather than Ukrainian one.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has become a topic of discussion about Syrian prisons, particularly the Saidnaya prison, since the recent events in Syria and the removal of President Bashar al-Assad’s administration. Since the start of the events, images and videos showing Syrian prisons and the misery of prisoners have been shared on social media.

Rumors abound about the existence of curative treatments for it, the most prominent of which during this period was the claim that one of the anti-tumor drugs under development is a cure for cancer of all types and regardless of its location.

In November 26, 2018 social media users began talk the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the approval of the first drug in the world that can treat cancer from its source and origin, for adults and children, according to what the commissioner of the government agency said. The drug “Vitrakvi” relies on treating genetic mutations in cancerous tumors, regardless of the type of disease or its place of origin. The new drug will help cancer patients obtain the appropriate treatment, and the drug “Vitrakvi” contributes to the treatment of people who suffer from different cancerous tumors, but who possess common genetic mutations. Traditionally, cancer was treated based on the source of the cancerous tumor, but now the treatment will be anywhere in the body because you are treating the original gene that caused the tumor

to appear. The drug was actually tried on humans, and the case of recovery of a child was recorded within months after taking the drug, and the drug will be offered on two bodies, the first in the form of tablets or capsules, and the other in the form of a syrup for children in particular.

But this news is partly false.

The drug Vitrakvi is not a magic drug that kills cancer in all its forms and stages. The drug Vitrakvi is the second drug that treats tumors that carry a specific genetic characteristic. It is a specialized drug for treating solid cancerous tumors that carry the NTRK genetic factor. The drug is for specific types that can spread and cannot be removed surgically. It is necessary to have a periodic blood test to check liver function, and pregnant and breastfeeding women are not allowed to take it. The post that was circulating X had pictures of both Elon Musk and Kamala Harris from different events that they attended. In other words, the pictures had no relation to what the caption was saying.

Further investigations were carried to find the original video of Kamla Harris claim by using fact-checking tools like Yandex, TinEye and Boolean Operators (advanced google search). The widely circulated allegations proved that they are a misrepresentation of Harris’ 2019 remarks in which she demanded that former President Donald Trump’s Twitter account be shut down for using offensive language. She never advocated for the platform to be shut down. Voters are confused because of the out-of-context statement being misrepresented and spread on social media.

Misinformation frequently spreads more quickly than the truth in the hyperconnected world of today. Harris’ 2019 comments focused on holding people responsible for breaking platform rules rather than shutting down entire services like X. Experts stress that material should always be verified before being shared online, especially during election seasons when political narratives are easily manipulated.
